Carrick Gazette editorial- Trump would be good for Turnberry

Donald Trump is someone that does things his own way. And he usually gets his way.

It seems very likely that the American billionaire is set to purchase the Turnberry hotel and luxury resort very soon.

And while some people might not like his style, what cannot be argued is that he will bring investment and a globally known face and brand to this area.

That can only be good news for Carrick, an area that that is badly in need of major investment.

Trump is a golf fanatic and will go tooth and nail to ensure that The Open Championship is once again held at the Ailsa Course.

With the Women’s Open being held at Turnberry next year, Trump’s proposed takeover couldn’t have come at a better time in terms of publicity.

Trump has significantly overhauled his world golf championship in Florida this year and is clearly passionate about ensuring golfers have the best experience.

It is welcome that Starwood Hotels would expect to provide the same top quality service that they do now under the luxury collection brand regardless of Mr Trump coming in or not.

This will be welcome news for ordinary members of Turnberry as well as guests who frequent the hotel for meals and holidays.

Trump though would bring a contact book as long as your arm and we could well see a major influx of celebrity visits to this area.

Who knows Mr Trump might decide that it is in his best interests- he has long been a master of PR- to take some trips around the Carrick area and invest heavily in other major projects in Girvan, Maybole and Pinwherry to name but a few places.

The deal is yet to be signed but it is sure to excite not just golfers but also businesses and local residents if the Donald signs on the dotted line.
