Cause for celebration at Girvan lifeboat station

GIRVAN Lifeboat has cause for celebration this month.

Coxswain Robert McMaster was awarded his long service medal having achieved 20 years of valuable service to teh RNLI in Girvan.

Robert, who is also the mechanic at RNLI Girvan, was only 17 when he joined the crew as a trainee, so most if not all, of his adult life has been devoted to the station.

During that time Robert was involved in over 100 “shouts” rescuing 168 people from danger. Of those, six were in immediate danger of their lives.

Robert also deputises occasionally as Coxswain at Anstruther in Fife and has been involved in several rescues there. The crew assembled at the lifebaot station to congratulate Robert as he was presented with the award by John Gourlay, lifeboat operations manager for Girvan, and Ian McClymont, deputy launching authority,
