Chamber to host pro-business election event

Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses is hosting a ‘Pro-Business politics’ breakfast.

Attending this event will be a representative from each Political Party standing for the General Election in May in Ayrshire.

Pro-Business Politics will give candidates the opportunity to attract the business vote in a Question Time style event

Confirmed so far are Dr Philippa Whitford SNP, PPC Central Ayrshire; Marc Hope, Scottish Conservatives, PPC Central Ayrshire; Veronkia Tudhope, Scottish Greens, PPC Central Ayrshire; Sharon McGonigal, UKIP, PPC North Ayrshire & Arran; Brian Donohoe(TBC), Labour, PPC Central Ayrshire and Gordon Bain (TBC), Scottish Liberal Democrats, PPC Central Ayrshire.

Chamber Chief Executive Val Russell explained: “The Chamber is a completely non-political organisation. We have put on this event to give our membership an opportunity to question each political party before the General Election.

“There still remain unanswered questions regarding economic growth, devolution and European Union membership - all issues that affect businesses in Ayrshire. There is also Air Passenger Duty which would have a major impact at Glasgow Prestwick Airport and the surrounding tourism industry. ”

Ada Galloway, the FSB’s Ayrshire Branch Chair, said: “With thousands of small business votes in Ayrshire, candidates must reach out to the enterprises across the area.

“The hustings is a great opportunity for business owners and candidates to exchange views.

“The FSB has been pressing the case for the next UK Government – no matter its composition – to tackle the problems which hold our members back, such as late-payment and complicated tax regime.

“We would like to know what candidates will do, if elected, to help small businesses grow and prosper.”

The Q&A session will be moderated by Garry Clark, Head of Policy and Research at Scottish Chambers of Commerce.

The event takes place at the Aviator Suite, Glasgow Prestwick Airport on Friday 24th April from 8:30am – 10.30am.

To attend please contact Alan Cameron on 01292 678 666 or Val Russell

Each candidate will be given five minutes to put forward their Party’s case for your vote. A Q&A session will take place after the candidates allotted time.

The event is in partnership with the Federation of Scottish Businesses.
