Councillor Alec Oattes to serve on community rail board

Girvan and South Carrick councillor Alec Oattes is to serve as South Ayrshire’s representative on the community rail partnership group headed up by SAYLSA.

The decision was taken at a meeting of South Ayrshire Council on Thursday 15 May. SAYLSA have been fighting since 2007 to become the community rail partnership (CRP)for the Ayr to Stranraer line.

The last two years have seen the council work closely with Strathclyde Passenger Transport, SWestrans, Dumfries and Galloway Council to establish a CRP.

That is believed to have been passed by Transport Scotland and is in the hands of the relevant Scottish Government minister.

Councillor Oattes will be one of up to 12 board members on the board which will be under the auspicies of SAYLSA and it will include a governance structure involving communities, businesses and elected representatives. See page 7
