Friar Hew the builder of the castle in Ballantrae had a remarkable life, long after he was Joan of Arc’s Scottish Captain, he was French Ambassador to Scotland, dispatched to fetch a princess to marry the Dauphin, which proved to be a very dangerous mission.

He was responsible for the fleet’s departure from Dumbarton and all the security which had to be implemented.

Priest, soldier, pillager, diplomat, counsellor to kings, Archdeacon of St. Andrews and mentioned in the birth of Scottish golf. You could not write a more colourful fictional story!
