Fears for Girvan fishing future

FISHERMEN say they can contribute more to the econmy of Girvan in the future but say they still have fears over the future of the industry if current plans to redevelop the harbour go ahead as proposed.

South Ayrshire Council is planning to install pontoons in the harbour to attract more leisure craft to the town, although planning application for the scheme has been postponed until September this year to allow for the outcome of the ‘charrette’ on Girvan regeneration.

Tonight (Wednesday, March 14) will see another public meeting between South Ayrshire Council and harbour users over the proposals.
