two Carrick youths have been arrested following a fire at a business site in Girvan on Saturday night.
Fire services were called to a blaze at the rear of Old Street Garage, Old Street, at around 11pm on Saturday evening to deal with the fire.
Local police have praised Girvan residents for their quick actions in calling the emergency services and helping them catch those responsible for the blaze.
Police say the speedy efforts of the fire services prevented any serious damage being done to the property.
An eye-witness told the Gazette: “I heard a lot of noise late on Saturday night and saw the smoke at the back of the garage. Initially I did worry it could be a lot worse but the fire crew were there pretty quickly.
Two 17-year-old males were arrested for wilful fireraising afterwards.
A spokesman for Girvan Police said: “Local Police would like to thank members of the public for their help in raising the alarm and coming forward with information, which subsequently led to two 17-year-old males being arrested. Thankfully due to a rapid response from the Fire and Rescue Service the fire was extinguished before any serious damage was done.”
A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
