The first “Fun Day” aimed at raising money for Girvan’s new Swimming Pool complex was voted a big success by organisers.
The harbour area was bathed in sunshine on Saturday and large numbers of locals and visitors turned out to support the event. The climbing wall proved as popular as ever, te car booters were out in force and the rides also did a roaring trade.
Organiser Sconaid Clark of South Carrick Community Leisure said “This was our first fun day and it has given us something to build on to make sure the next one is even bigger and better. We aim to make this a regular annual event as we have quite a bit of money to raise”.
Sconaid was quite confident that the people of Girvan and South Carrick were wholeheartedly behind the fund-raising effort having already made clear their determination to see a replacement for the demolished pool. “Things are moving, albeit slowly”, she said, and added that the Board of SCCL was working hard behind the scenes to make sure that it will happen. Another important step along the road will be the appointment, expected in the next few days, of a Project Officer to carry the work forward.
There is still time for more people to become involved in the project and SCCL are still looking for more people to sign up for the 50-50 Clubs which has now attracted more than 200 members. Forms are available from board members or at the Carrick Gazette, the Sweetie Shop or anywhere displaying a sign.
