Barr Village dodged the inclement weather on Saturday to pull off yet another successful Gala Day.

Early on, the clouds broke for an hour to allow the starters in the traditional race over Auchensoul Fell complete the event without a soaking, although the underfoot conditions were difficult. But that didn’t prevent young and old alike from heading off up the hills.

First back in the seniors race was young villager Aron Denham. After another shower around mid-day, all fingers were crossed for the parade through the village and, once again, Mother Nature did her bit as the sun came out briefly when then cavalcade, headed by Gala King and Queen, Dylan Ross and Skye Trotter, toured the village to the delight of a good crowd of well-wishers. This year’s theme was “The Movies” and the local primary school won the prize for the best float with the Rural and the Quilters Club in close contention.

A large audience was encouraged by another shower to cram into the Village Hall for the crowning ceremony and the rain had passed by the time the King and Queen had declared the Gala Day “Open”. Then it was fun for all the family with variety of stalls and entertainment available. A Gala Dance in the evening brought another great day to a close.
