Villagers in Barrhill should be celebrating the news that over £200,000 is going to be spent on redeveloping Arnsheen Park.
For too long the park has been left in a poor and unappealing state but thanks to the Barrhill Community Interest Company it is full speed ahead with the plans to spruce up the village park in time for the summer.
Having purchased the land from Solway Precast, the company have spent time working on designs and on Saturday, they involved the community in that process.
The Gazette is very impressed by the plans which are set to bring a real boost to the village and surrounding area.
The community interest company accept that the car park development is a saga that they could have done without but they stress now the community will be involved in much more of the decision making regarding projects to be self-funded through the windfarm payments into the village.
And the Arnsheen community park is a real community project and in particular it will provide terrific benefits to the children of the villages.
With an adventure trail, zip lines, swings and a multi use games arena, children of all ages will be able to spend endless hours of fun at the park.
And with an outdoor classroom also planned, the park will be working in conjuction with the Primary School which again highlights their belief in a community project.
The company behind the design Hags SMP are the UK’s leading developer in these type of projects so Barrhill will be getting only the highest quality products which are all set to be completed in time for the school holidays starting.
This is a wonderful example of a small community believing that they can make the place where they live a great deal better.
By involving the community in choosing the winning design, the community interest company have taken a huge step forward this week.
