TRAGEDY struck the town of Girvan once again last Thursday evening when two young men died and another man was injured as the result of a horrific car accident.
Robert Robertson and Steven McKechnie were both killed after the Honda car they were travelling in went off the A77 two miles north of Ballantrae.
Twenty three year-old Robert Robertson, who was driving, was killed instantly and Steven McKechnie, also 23, was transported to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow by Air Ambulance where he later died of his injuries.
A third person in the car, Scott McFarlane 22, also from Girvan was taken to Ayr Hospital suffering from minor injuries, he was later released.
This is the second tragic loss for the Robertson family, of Girvan's Roodlands Road. Their eldest son Alistair drowned in another accident around seven years ago.
A friend of Robert's said: "I cannot believe this has happened. I just feel so sad for Bertie's mum and dad, Bertie and Fiona, and his girlfriend Jackie. It is unbelievable."
A friend of Steven McKechnie also told the Gazette: "Steven was a lovely guy, who would have talked to anyone. He was very good to his friends and would have done anything for them."
A celebration of Steven McKechnie's life will take place tomorrow (Friday) at 10.30am in Girvan's North Parish Church and thereafter to the Bynehill Cemetery at 11.15am.
