Air traffic controllers in Prestwick have revealed their grand fundraising total for the Ayrshire Hospice as £37,624!
The hospice was named as NATS Prestwick Charity of the Year in May 2014 and since then teams across the organisation have joined forces to raise money for the hospice.
Alastair Muir Operations Director at NATS explains “When we named the Ayrshire Hospice as our Charity of the Year we set ourselves the target of £18,500 - enough to run the hospice for one day. I’m delighted to reveal that not only have we achieved that target but we’ve completely smashed it!
“The whole team has gotten behind this challenge and we have totally exceeded our own expectations. It’s such a worthy cause, our staff didn’t need much persuasion and the fundraising ideas just kept coming’.
Many different teams at NATS Prestwick have been involved in raising funds, including the NATS mud runners, Arran cyclists, the “nearly new” sales team, Autumn Ball guests, B Watch Bangers and the D Watch team who recently tackled the 44 miles of the River Ayr Walk in one day.
They even had a team climb Ben Lomond whilst a couple of them cycled to the top and it’s not over yet, a number of NATS staff have signed up to cross the river Clyde on a 40 metre high zip wire in September, which will further increase the total!
NATS have also offered volunteers to help with the hospice June newsletter distribution, shared their giant 5th anniversary cake with hospice employed and voluntary staff, and are hosting a tea party at the hospice on the afternoon of Tuesday 30th May to celebrate their grand fundraising total.
Fiona Leitch, Head of Fundraising at the Ayrshire Hospice comments “We are absolutely thrilled with the amount of money that NATS Prestwick have presented to the hospice today. NATS staff have been so creative in their many and varied fundraising activities and I’m delighted they have been so successful. We look forward to continuing our partnership with NATS and seeing what other ideas they can come up with.
Caren Adams NATS Business Ambassador for the hospice adds ‘Not only have we raised this fantastic amount of money, it really has been great fun for everyone involved and some of the teams are already planning future events.’
