Be aware and don’t be afraid to get in contact with us – that was the message from Carrick police inspector Andy Clapperton to the area’s farmers who have been targeted by thieving gangs.
Over the past few months, gangs have concentrated their attentions on farming properties throughout the Carrick area and have stolen quad bikes.
Police admit that the vast rural landscape of Carrick is making it difficult to catch those responsible and he pleaded with local farmers and land-owners for their co-operation.
Inspector Clapperton said: “These thefts are occurring in a vastly widespread rural area. To this end, it is of paramount importance that our farming population be extra vigilant and be our eyes and ears in helping to trace the persons responsible for these crimes.
“I appeal for everyone to report any suspicious activities, and encourage anyone being offered quad bikes for sale to contact the police immediately.
“All and any information will be treated with the utmost discretion. People can telephone Girvan police office on 01465 715314, or contact the confidential Crimestoppers number on 0800 555111.”
