The village of Barr is getting spruced up for its annual gala day.
The bunting is going up, the stall holders are producing their best cakes and crafts and the king and queen elect are getting their finery ready for the big day on Saturday, June 6. This year’s king and queen are Barr Primary pupils Nathan Harvey and Ellie Faulds with elysha White as their lady in waiting.
With the Dunaskin Doon Band leading the way, they will parade with the floats through the village to their coronation in the village hall where they will declare the gala day open for business.
This year’s theme is Children’s TV shows, so it’s sure to be a lively and colourful affair. The day will get off to an early start with the traditional fell race for adults and children over Auchensoul. Visiting runners are welcome and registration will commence at the village hall at 9.30am for the start of the race at 10am. A burger stall will be open from 9am onwards.
The gala parade will commence at 1pm and the array of stalls along the side of the Gregg Burn will be open from then on.
Once again there will be fun and games for all the family. The tearoom in the hall will open for the afternoon following the crowning at 1.30pm. Another attraction will be the dog show at 3pm which will beheld at The Pot where the Gregg meets the Stinchar River. And the duck race down the Gregg will add to the excitement.
For those who want to take things at a more leisurely pace, there will be an arts and crafts exhibition in the parish church and the village’s Wee Gallery will host an open studio event.
The King’s Arms Hotel will be open all day for meals and refreshments and the Community Store will also be open throughout.
And if all that wasn’t enough, Barr’s new Super Play park is sure to be a hit with visiting youngsters with a huge array of equipment, including the very popular zip wire for kids with enough energy left to give it a go.
It’s all happening in Barr on Saturday, June 6 so why not join in and head for the hills for a great day out.
