For over ten years the Girvan Rotary Club have held a putting competition at Brunston Golf Club which was started by the late Mr. David Muir who was an honorary member of Brunston Golf Club and a well respected Girvan golfer and Rotary member.
The competition includes Rotarians and their wives and a few invited guests who included Dorothy Muir, Irene Webber, Vera Dunlop and Ian MacKinnon. The competition was organised by Mr Tom Paterson, a well known Turnberry golf man .
The competition was a ‘pairs’ event over 18 holes. The best golfers were paired with non golfers, then the presentations were made over dinner in the Clubhouse .
In super weather the 14 teams who took part had a very competitive competition , however by the end of the competition the results were as follows- 3rd: Rev. Jim Guthrie and Mrs Mary Smith 2nd: Mr. Findlay Mills and Mrs. Catharine Andrew 1st: Mr Jim Crawford and Mrs. Dorothy Muir
Dorothy was delighted to win, as it was her late husband David who started the competition. She said: “I did no practice rounds at all, but the hole- in- ones just kept coming.”
