Magazine is ‘strictly’ for seniors

Strictly Seniors, a new free magazine developed as part of South Ayrshire’s Reshaping Care for Older People, was launched at an event organised by VASA (Voluntary Action South Ayrshire) to celebrate the International Day for Older People at South Ayrshire Council’s headquarters.

The team leading Reshaping Care for Older People − South Ayrshire Council, NHS Ayrshire and Arran, Voluntary Action South Ayrshire and Scottish Care − is keen to see Strictly Seniors being read by older people, carers, family members and local residents that play a vital part in supporting the work.

Strictly Seniors will soon be made available in public buildings across South Ayrshire in Council buildings, doctors, opticians, NHS establishments and many other places.

Councillor Hugh Hunter, Chair of the Community Health Partnership said: “The magazine is very colourful and bursting with information about the range of services and opportunities available for older people in South Ayrshire. It sets out lots of ways to keep active, healthy and safe and enjoy life to the full whatever your interests.

“If you are looking for information, support, or want to know how to access the wide range of services available in South Ayrshire Strictly Seniors has it all.”

The event included information stalls representing a number of organisations including: VASA; NHS Ayrshire & Arran; community transport and learning bus; Age Scotland; mobility aids; lawyers; Ayrshire Bridge Union; Ayrshire Bowling Association; family and local history; Opportunities in Retirement; South Ayrshire Care and Repair; Energy Saving Scotland. In addition there were workshops throughout the day.

Councillor Rita Miller, Social Services Portfolio Holder for the Council said: “Strictly Seniors highlights that people’s more senior years can be filled with fun activities and it is also a time when, possibly with more time to spare, you can help others. Older people form a substantial proportion of local volunteers and the resource provides information on how to get involved.”
