Marking maybole’s 500th anniversary as a burgh

On 14th November, 1516, Maybole’s status as a burgh of barony was confirmed by King James V, or rather his guardian John, Duke of Albany, as the king was a young child at that time.

The 500th anniversary of this event is only a couple of years away and Maybole Community Council is considering how to mark the occasion.

Preliminary discussions have been held with Maybole Historical Society and Maybole Community Association and a sub group comprising representatives from the community council, historical society and community association will be formed to take this forward.

The community council is keen that this should be a whole town event and will be inviting local groups to a meeting next month to discuss the idea, judge support for such an event and to formulate a plan of action.
