The news from the recent extraordinary general meeting of Maybole Community Association is a bit mixed.

The good news is that 16 local people turned out to support the group and new office bearers were elected.

The not so good news is that the traditional date of the gala day will have to change this year and all local organisations are asked to note that the new date for the gala has been confirmed as Saturday, June 27.

The annual ecumenical service at Crossraguel Abbey will be held on Sunday, June 21 at 3pm and the Team Quiz will be held in the Carrick Sports Club on Thursday, June 25. The Pet Show will now be part of the Gala.

The new Chairperson of the Community Association is Senga Mason and she thanked Alex Kelly, Margaret Landsburgh and other committee members for everything they had done over the last few years.

She also issued this appeal, “I am asking the residents of Maybole to band together to ensure that this year’s Gala is a tremendous success.

“I realise that not everyone wants to join a committee but we are desperately in need of help on the day of the Gala and also for people to participate in the parade.

“Maybole Gala will be held this year on Saturday, June 27 which is the day after the school finishes for the summer holidays and what a great way for the children to celebrate the start of their summer break.”

Senga continued, “Maybole Gala is the biggest event held in the town and brings the population, both young and old, together for a day of fun.

“The day will start with the parade from Carrick Academy and I would urge all groups to take part in the parade whether dressed up, or in uniform, and for residents in streets to get together and join in the parade.

“Adults can decorate their cars, and the children their bikes and cycle from the school to the Glebe Field. Children can also come long in their fancy dress and take part in the parade, too.

“I am looking forward to my new role as Chairperson of the Community Association; with a strong committee behind me and with the support of the community, I am sure that the Community Association will go from strength to strength.”

Other office bearers elected are Yvonne Morrison, Vice-Chair, Sharlene Bone, Treasurer and the position of Secretary will be filled at the next meeting.

The Association will be taking the charity shop for a week on Friday, May 8 and would be grateful for any donations which will help to raise funds.
