Organisers of the Foodbank in Maybole say they were “absolutely overwhelmed” by the response to their Christmas pop-up food bank.
The food bank was in a gazebo which was erected at the Greenside recently.
They took over 200 bags of toys, food, drinks, Advent calendars and selection boxes.
Coral McMillan said afterwards: “We were blown away by the kindness of the people of Maybole and surrounding areas. Over the two days, we were humbled beyond words by the care and generosity of local people towards their less fortunate neighbours. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this amazing cause.
“We did the easy bit and now we hand over to the amazing staff and volunteers at South Ayrshire Foodbank to get it to the people that need it most. Also a reminder that there is a collection point for Foodbank at The Carrick Centre Monday to Saturday.
“Two ladies came with bags of food and asked if we were collecting toys for children. I told them that we were, and they returned later with two huge bags of brand new toys saying that they had decided not to buy each other presents this year but contribute to the Foodbank instead.
“Maybole Juniors donated a substantial amount of food and drinks from their own funds. The Carrick Centre helped my husband, Hugh, and I publicise it and provided an endless supply of coffee.
“Thomson Builders also made a substantial donation.”
