THERE has been mixed reaction to an early school holiday for youngsters in Girvan.
Girvan Primary school and Girvan Nursery were forced to send pupils home at around lunchtime on Tuesday, December 20 after a boiler breakdown.
However the school has since notified parents that it will close for the rest of the week and is now in effect closed for the school holidays.
Some children were, as you would expect, over the moon, but there are comments on the Facebook website which suggest that some children are upset at missing out on their Christmas parties which were scheduled for later this week.
And some parents are delighted at having their little treasures at home for an extended seasonal break, however some parents are now having to take time off work at a busy time and some say they will have no time to do last-minute Christmas shopping.
A spokeswoman for South Ayrshire COuncil said: “Girvan Primary School was closed on the afternoon of Tuesday 20 December due to the heating system requiring unexpected repairs.
“As this was not a planned closure parents and carers were informed as soon as possible and kept updated by various methods including South Ayrshire Council’s website, local media and text messages.”
A message on the council’s website is now advising parents that Girvan Primary and Nursery “will remain closed to pupils until after the festive holiday due to repairs being carried out on the heating system”.
