Moving ahead in the battle against waste

More household rubbish than ever will get another lease of life from February 27 as recycling becomes easier.

South Ayrshire Council is among the first councils in Scotland to allow residents to place waste glass into blue bins, alongside other waste materials, which will continue to be uplifted every two weeks. Consideration is also being given to possible future uses for the black recycling boxes and residents are being asked to retain these and further information will be provided in due course.

The blue bin service is also being expanded to allow for a wider range of waste to go into them, offer residents a novel way to dispense of paperbacks, a surefooted method of disposing of old footwear and a positive way to recycle old batteries.
