MP Corri Wilson is calling on South Ayrshire Council to launch a full inquiry into the recent flooding of a travellers’ site on the outskirts of Girvan.
The council-run Houdston Travellers’ Site has eight semi-detached serviced utility blocks for travellers to pitch their caravans and mobile homes.
The site came under a deluge of water on New Year’s Eve, causing considerable damage to some of the caravans at the site. Residents whose homes have been wrecked have been in contact with the MP seeking help.
Ms Wilson said: “What has happened at this site must be devastating for these families. It is important that South Ayrshire Council act quickly to ensure people are given appropriate short term accommodation and that this tragedy does not adversely affect the children’s access to education.”
