MSP hits out at Royal Mail job cuts

Local SNP MSP Adam Ingram has hit out at the announcement from Royal Mail of 1600 job cuts as part of a drive to cut costs and make savings of £50m a year.

Mr Ingram has been vocal in his criticism of the cost cutting measures of Royal Mail and the privatisation of the organisation.

Commenting on the latest development Mr Ingram said: “This is sadly not surprising given the UK government sold Royal Mail. Its sole existence is now about making profits.

“The privatisation of Royal Mail was a deeply flawed Westminster decision - opposed by the vast majority of Scottish MPs - which threatens to have particularly harmful consequences for Scotland, where so many of our rural communities and so much of our rural economy rely on the Royal Mail service.

“It is clear that the only way for Scotland to have the postal service people want and deserve is with a Yes vote in September. With independence, the Scottish Government will bring Royal Mail back into public ownership where it belongs.”
