Residents in Girvan, Maybole, Prestwick and Troon are the first to benefit from new South Ayrshire Council customer facilities right in the heart of their local communities with four improved customer service centres now open for business.
The four centres in Girvan, Maybole, Prestwick and Troon are part of a new ‘family’ of customer service centres being established by the Council across South Ayrshire, with the four improved centres being joined by a brand-new customer service centre based within the Wallace Tower in Ayr, which is scheduled to open early next year.
The aim of the centres is to provide ‘one-stop-shop’ facilities in the heart of our communities where customers can access information, assistance and advice on a full range of Council services, making sure the Council is here for you.
Services available from the customer service centres include:
Clothing grants and free school meals
Council tax enquiries and payments
Housing enquiries and payments
Registration enquiries and extracts requests
Submitting planning applications
Waste management enquiries.
The centres are staffed by a dedicated customer service team, all of whom have been specifically recruited for these roles and have undergone a comprehensive training programme over recent months to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to deal with any customer coming into to our centres.
The four centres in Girvan, Maybole, Prestwick and Troon are now open after a £393,000 transformation, creating light, bright, warm and welcoming environments for customers to discuss any Council matters.
The centres have been redesigned completely with the customer in mind with improved accessibility; bigger interview rooms (including one in every centre that is large enough for pram or wheelchair access); extra interview points or interview rooms where space allowed; more internet and phone points, giving easier access to services online or by phone where required; better desk and seating layouts to increase comfort and privacy; and dedicated information points.
Councillor Philip Saxton, South Ayrshire Council’s Customer First Portfolio Holder, said: “Our four improved centres are fantastic locations for customers to interact with the Council on any matter – all from one location. The work that has been carried out has obviously transformed the physical environment of these centres, but we are also transforming the service element, making it easier than ever for our customers to contact us directly.
“However, these centres are much more than just Council offices – we see them becoming community hubs that are visited by local people on a regular basis to find out what’s happening within their communities.
“For example, each centre will have an area where members of the public can display and view artwork and photography produced by members and groups within the community and there will be information screens carrying details of local events and activities.
“Through these centres, we will ensure we are here for you and I hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to drop into their nearest South Ayrshire Council customer service centre.”
Customer service advisers are available 8.45am-4.45pm (Monday-Thursday) and 8.45am-4pm on Fridays in our four improved customer service centres:
