THE campaign to raise money to build a new swimming pool in Girvan suffered a major setback this week.
It is understood that the chairman of the community body set up to raise money for the project has resigned.
Popular chairman Andrew Sinclair has resigned from South Carrick Community Leisure (SCCL), the community body set up last year to raise £4 million to build the pool, which would match the £4 million already promised by South Ayrshire Council.
The Carrick Gazette understands that there is some disquiet among members of the SCCL over issues including the progress of the design and planning for the new ‘multi-faceted leisure centre’ and the recent failure to appoint a project manager.
Mr Sinclair said he would not be making any official statement until he had discussed the move with South Ayrshire Council.
