SISG (Ayrshire Hearing Support) Receive Prestigious £10,000 GSK Award
The Ayrshire based hearing impaired charity have been shortlisted out of a number of voluntary/charity groups throughout Ayrshire and received a financial award of £10,000.
Cammy Mitchell (Production Operations Manager) of the Irvine GSK Plant made the presentation of the cheque to Denise McClung (Project Manager) and Dorothy McRobert (Rehabilitation Officer) at their offices at Sutherland House in Ayr.
He said: “I am delighted to make this donation to SISG (Ayrshire Hearing Support) to help support the Project Manager and Rehabilitation Officer in the provision of a much needed drop in centre at their Sutherland House office in Prestwick.
“The service provided by SISG has an impressive community focus which is clearly demonstrated by an energetic group of volunteers offering support and information in addressing both the practical and emotional needs of people within our community who are impacted by hearing loss.” “It is fantastic to see the passion organisations such as SISG have for making a difference in their community and their ethos closely matches our own GSK mission of helping people to Do More, Feel Better, and Live Longer.”
SISG (Ayrshire Hearing Support) was recognised in particular because of the large amount of work it carried out in the community. It provides free servicing of hearing aids for elderly hearing aid users throughout North, South and East Ayrshir.
Trained volunteers carry out visits within 34 Nursing Homes, 35 Sheltered Housing Complexes, five hospitals and 117 housebound people. The group also has six drop-in centres in Ayr, Cumnock Girvan, Fenwick, Stewarton and Largs in addition to a support group which meets monthly.
