The four-month project to transform the interior of Girvan Golf Clubhouse is now well underway.

The extensive refurbishment will help to guarantee the building remains an important part of South Ayrshire Council’s sporting portfolio.

The £172k refurbishment programme involves a full internal upgrade of the facilities at Girvan Clubhouse, including the dining room, bar, locker rooms, a new disabled WC and showers.

The entrance area and corridor will also be refreshed, heating improved, damp issues resolved, with new electrical fittings helping to improve efficiency and reduce running costs.

The project is being delivered by Kier Construction and is due for completion by September 2016.

Donald Gillies, South Ayrshire Council’s Head of Property and Risk, said the project was part of a wider package of investment, “The work at Girvan is the latest investment in our impressive family of golf courses, which continue to be popular with locals and visitors from across the world.

“The new look clubhouse complements our ongoing project to build the new £6 million pound Quay Zone leisure centre in the town, which will greatly improve access to sports facilities.

“Across South Ayrshire we’re investing £3.5 million investment in golf and recently opened a magnificent new clubhouse at Belleisle, while work to transform facilities at Troon is now well advanced, ahead of its reopening next year.

“Across all these projects we’re helping to enhance existing facilities as part of a major drive to attract the next generation of people to take up the sport.”
