Pubs get late licence for World Cup matches

Pubs in South Ayrshire are free to apply for late licences for football world cup games after a decision by the council’s licensing board.

Due to the tournament being played in Brazil, certain games will kick off at 11pm in this country meaning the games will finish after a pub’s licensed opening time.

From June 13 until June 22 during the group stages, a game will kick off at 11pm including on June 14 when England face Italy.

The board agreed that pubs could apply for extended hours for this special event as appropriate and delegated the powers to the clerk of the board to deal with any forthcoming applications.

However, the board didn’t feel there was any need to consider extended hours applications for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the Independence referendum result in September and the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
