On Friday December 12, pupils at Carrick Academy took part in the Christmas Jumper Day and in the true spirit of Christmas, donated over 574 items of food to the Maybole Food Bank.
Wilma Milligan, South Ayrshire Food Bank coordinator for Maybole, was overwhelmed by the generosity of the pupils and staff of Carrick Academy.
Mrs Milligan reminded staff and pupils of Carrick Academy that people who use the services of the Food Bank are “our friends and neighbours, who through no fault of their own, have fallen on hard times.” Coral and Hugh McMillan, volunteers for the Food Bank which operates out of the Carrick Centre, were also on hand to receive the goodies and were equally bowled over by the huge donation.
Senior pupils had organised the collection of the donations and had challenged the three Houses of Carrick Academy to collect the most cans of food.
In the end it was the big-hearted pupils of Arran House who brought in the most!
Well done and thank you to all involved!
