Saylsa to host fun day at Girvan station on Friday

Saylsa, the community rail partnership for Carrick and Wigtownshire is set to hold a fun day at Girvan Station this Friday.

The group was recently confirmed as Scotland’s first community rail partnership and Friday also marks the organisation’s seventh birthday.

From just after 11am, the event will begin with 20 children from the Sacred Heart choir and half a dozen from the Ayr choir performing as well as a piper from Stranraer.

There will also be a short re dedication presentation of the plaque that was put up in 1996 thanks to the work of union leader Jimmy Knapp.

Jimmy’s brother Hugh will be doing the honours.

And the group are also going to host a re creation of a 1906 postcard that was sent from Girvan station with Alison Ronald from Carrick Academy and James Cassidy of Girvan Academy.

Digniatries are also expected to attend the event on Friday morning with organisers hopeful of a large attendance.
