Scientists catch the British bus

Carrick is set to be visited by a distinctive red bus later this month and it’s all in the name of telling people about great British inventions.

The Travelling Museum of British Invention’s red bus will be in the area on five separate occasions from Friday 24 January to Thursday 30 January.

The Travelling Museum of British Invention is a bus filled with 100 of Britain’s most important inventions, discoveries and social innovations. From the steam engine to the NHS, gravity to radar, the Museum features a roll call of British achievement.

The inventions on the bus are displayed in nine themed cabinets of wonder. Each exhibit tells a story using intriguing anecdotes, surprising artefacts and even the odd jar of facts.

Visitors to the bus choose a ‘bus route’ and are given keys to unlock ten boxes of their choice.

There is one cabinet in the bus which is themed to the location, so there will be some exhibits with connections to South Ayrshire including work relating to McAdam, Speirs Planes and whitework needlework.

Councillor Margaret Toner, Lifelong Learning Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “The Travelling Museum of British Invention is an outstanding bus which really brings to life British inventions which have changed our lives. I am particularly looking forward to seeing the inventions with a local connection.

“We are very lucky that the bus will be coming to visit the Carrick area and I would encourage people to go along and see the exhibits.”

Arrangements are being put in place for pupils from Carrick schools, community groups and the public to go along to learn more about our great inventions.

In welcome news, admission to the bus is free giving you the perfect opportunity to find out about the list of fantastic British inventions and achievements.
