A gifted young artist has received the Penkill Prize from Girvan Academy.
The school awards the prize annually, which is gifted by Penkill Castle owner Patrick Drumgoole to a pupil, usually from the Penkill area, who does well in the field of art.
This year former sixth-year student Stephanie Thomson was awarded the prize after “excelling in art”, according to the judges.
Art teacher Jonathan Reid said: “We had so many good students this year it was a big, big choice, but Stephanie’s enthusiasm and dedication shone through.”
Stephanie is now taking up a place at Reid Kerr College in Paisley studying interior architecture.
And one of the designs she completed for the prize may be implemented immediately at Girvan Academy.
Part of Stephanie’s entry was a redesign of the school dining room and some of her designs may be taken up by South Ayrshire Council, which is refurbishing the school dining rooms this week.
