There is a south west derby in Scottish League One this week as Ayr United make the journey to take on league leaders Stranraer at Stair Park.
It is a massive game for both clubs as Ayr United are still under the threat of a relegation play-off to avoid dropping into the bottom tier of Scottish football.
And Stranraer are involved in a nail-biting title race with just five games to go before the end of the season as they top the table by just one point from fellow promotion rivals Morton and Forfar.
Ayr on the other hand, are only in the relegation play-off spot of ninth by the virtue of having scored more goals than Stenhousemuir.
They picked up a valuable point against Brechin on Saturday at Somerset Park in a 2-2 draw, although Ian McCall’s side were leading with 15 minutes remaining.
Stranraer made the long journey to Peterhead and grabbed a 2-1 win to retain their league lead, with Jamie Longworth scoring the winner eight minutes from time.
Stephen Aitken’s Stranraer side have had the upper hand on Ayr United this season, winning all three league encounters so far.
Goals from Grant Gallagher and Jamie Longworth sealed a 2-0 win at Somerset Park in September, before former Ayr striker Craig Malcolm bagged two goals in a 3-1 home success in November.
The third success came at Somerset on January 3 with Malcolm and Longworth again being thorns in Ayr’s side, scoring one each.
The game at Stair Park is a 3pm kick off and Stranraer v Ayr games are always tasty encounters so don’t miss out on any of the action.
