Summer holiday activity programme is packed full of fun, fun, fun!

South Ayrshire Council’s school holiday programme for summer 2013 promises to be packed full of fun, fun, fun! There is so much to do this summer at a number of venues and facilities, meaning the only thing you have to do is choose what you want to do, where and when!

New to the programme this summer is the chance to spend either a half or full day at the Citadel Leisure Centre where young people will be able to choose from a range of activities. They can either choose a morning or afternoon session (for just £6) or enjoy a full day (for just £10) where they can take advantage of a special chill out zone which includes a pamper zone and chance to have a go on a golf simulator.

Some of the activities on offer include floor games, fun footie, netball, baton twirling, gymnastics, basketball, funky dance, junior assault course and much, much more! And if you don’t have time for all of that, different activities are available as individual sessions including some free come and try events.

Activity centres at Coylton, Dundonald, Mossblown, Muirhead and Whitletts have an array of activities for young people to join in including archery, athletics, basketball, dance, gymnastics, racket sports and volleyball – to name just a few.

For football fans, football coaching is on offer from Ayr United Football Academy community coaches at various venues throughout the holidays.

Rugby sessions are also being offered at Ayr Rugby Club and, if golf is more your thing, you can enjoy coaching sessions at both Belleisle and Troon golf courses.

Tennis and badminton are also on offer at Ayr Fort, Ayr Lawn and Prestwick tennis clubs.

If you prefer to make a splash this summer, then Maybole, Prestwick, Troon pools and the Citadel Leisure Centre have float/boat and inflatable fun run sessions and even pool discos to keep the kids entertained.

Or try our sports camps – these were introduced over Easter at various venues and proved to be so successful, they’re being repeated over the summer. These can be attended on a half or full day basis and offer a wide variety of sports – simply something for everyone.

Other activities include coastal rowing, giving you a chance to take advantage of the great outdoors or, for those with a head for heights, indoor climbing.

Councillor Bill Grant, Portfolio Holder for Leisure said: “It’s nice to see so many different fun activities on offer this summer, which will make it easier than ever to keep our young ones occupied.

“All you need to do now is pick up a copy of this year’s fun packed South Ayrshire Council Summer Fun programme and take a leisurely look through it and choose how they are going to spend their summer!”

For a copy of the Summer Fun programme, visit or pick up a copy in schools, sports and leisure facilities, libraries or the Council’s customer service centres.
