A 21-year-old Maybole man died in a horrific car accident on Sunday afternoon which also left two young boys in hospital.
He has been named by police as Kai Milligan of Miller Terrace, Maybole. His family have been informed.
The accident occurred at around 4.45pm on Sunday, July 24. Police have said that a 19-year-old woman was driving a Vauxhall Corsa northbound on the B7024 near Blairston Mains, when it appears the vehicle lost control and left the road.
Emergency services attended, but sadly Milligan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two boys, aged 12 and 15, were both taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock to be treated for their injuries.
The 15-year-old was later transferred to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Galsgow.
Both boys are described by hospital staff as being in a stable condition.
The driver of the Corsa and a 17-year-old female passenger were taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and later released.
Tributes have flowed onto the deceased’s Facebook page this week.
Kai’s friend, John Graham, wrote: “Can’t believe it...a friend for many years has been taken too soon. RIP Kai Milligan you will be missed very sorely mate.”
Meanwhile Brian Wolf Kennedy wrote: “Taken way too soon. The world has lost a soul of light but heaven has gained an angel of light and prosperity!”
Andrea Hamillie added: “Absolutely awful news. Thoughts are with all of your family just now, and the Maybole community.”
Sergeant Andy Johnston of the Divisional Road Policing Unit, based at Irvine, is appealing for any information on the accident.
He said this week: “Our enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the crash, and I would ask anyone who witnessed the crash or who saw the car involved on the B7024 before the incident to contact our office.
“Anyone with information that may assist our investigation should contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Irvine through the 101 number.”
A funding website has been set up to help Kai’s family with the costs of a funeral service.
