GIRVAN Academy are wheel ahead of the competition as they are declared league champions in an inter-school mountainbiking challenge.
Organised by South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership and supported by Girvan’s Adventure Centre for Education and the Forestry Commission, the event saw three pupils from each South Ayrshire school go head-to-head at the mountain bike track at Glentrool.
On various days one student from each of the schools would attempt to complete a downhill section of track in the fastest time possible.
With the lowest combined recorded times, Girvan Academy won the team shield, while pupil Logan Knox was commended for his best individual average recorded times.
He also recorded the fastest time - two seconds faster than the experienced instructor who competes and regional and national levels.
All the students who took part in the mountain bike league were presented with a medal.
Councillor Rita Miller, Chair of the South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership, congratulated all those who took part.
“A positive experience for the students, I know that the skills they have learned and improved they will be able to apply in other areas of their lives,” she said.
