Charities and constituted community groups in the Girvan and District Community Council area are being encouraged to apply to a new Community Fund.
The community benefit funding is provided by Falck Renewables from its Assel Valley wind farm in South Ayrshire. The Fund is expected to provide a minimum of £25,000 per annum to Girvan over the lifetime of the wind farm.
Erin Hunter from Falck said “We’re pleased that the fund is now available for groups in the local community and we hope to see a range of activities and events coming forward for support. The Fund recognises the role that communities play in hosting one of our wind farms and has made a significant contribution in other areas. We hope it will prove to be just as valuable here.”
The Fund, led by Girvan & District Community Council, is keen to support a wide range of local activity that is positive and creative and benefits the community. In 2016, £55,000 is available to local groups, in grants from £500 to £5,000. There will be one funding round each year and the 2016 deadline for applications is Monday 5th September, for a decision in early November.
Ken Johnstone, Chair of Girvan & District Community Council said “This is a very welcome fund for Girvan and District, and we look forward to assisting hopefully a whole range of organisations enhance the quality of life of a large number of people in our area during the 27 year life span of this fund”.
Foundation Scotland has been appointed by Falck to administer the fund.
The Foundation will receive and process applications, provide guidance to groups on applying and support an Advisory Panel of local Community Councillors to decide how funds should be allocated, using its grant-making expertise to ensure positive long lasting community-led impact.
