There was good news for Girvan’s summer season this week as the local youth trust will again man the boating pond - but after a clean up!
Girvan Youth Trust has once again entered into an agreement with South Ayrshire Council to allow the boating pond to open throughout the summer months.
However, there are still problems with the pond which is leaking water and is in need of a clean up with winter storm debris having accumulated on the bottom of the empty pond this week.
South Ayrshire Council said this week that the pond would be cleaned and maintenenance and repairs would be carried out this year.
Claire Monaghan, South Ayrshire Council’s Head of Communities said: “The Z1 Youth Group has done a fantastic job in promoting and managing the Girvan boating pond and putting green in previous years, and we’re delighted this will be happening again in 2015.
“We’ll make sure the recent storm debris is cleared from the area and, as usual, the pond will be drained to allow the walls to be painted and then refilled, ready for the new season. Options for managing the repairs and ongoing maintenance of the pond are also being explored, to give this great community project the best chances to succeed.”
A spokesperson for Girvan Youth Trust said: “The youth trust and South Ayrshire Council have again entered into a service level agreement re operating the Boating Pond and Putting Green this year.
“The Trust also plan to continue to provide a programme of Children’s entertainment and activities and the Music on the Prom. We are hopeful to build upon the success of all of these extra attractions but it is too early to confirm finer details.”
