I went down to Stranraer last Thursday and watched the local team run rings round Ayr United in the first half and was delighted to come away with a draw.
It was with some trepidation that I went to Somerset Park on Saturday to witness the second leg. The game went from end to end with I thought Ayr the slightly better team on the day. Ayr’s defence was well organised and Jordan Preston who was up front on his own for most of the game chased everything, despite a Stranraer full back who was determined to drag him to the ground at every opportunity. However in the penalty kicks Ayr’s goalkeeper Greg Fleming came into his own saving the first three Stranraer penalties and with Andy Graham scoring the winning penalty we were through to the Championship next season. Well done Ayr we celebrated with great fervour.
