Over 450 competitors made their way to Callendar Park in Falkirk last weekend as the 2015 Scottish CycloCross Series got underway, with Ayr Burners fielding 5 riders across the various age grouped races.
Brothers Harry and Cammy McGarvie rode in the Youth categories, whist JP Baxter and Lindsay McGarvie entered into the veteran mens event which had an impressive starting grid of well over 100 cyclists.
Joanne Baxter produced the strongest ride of the day with a 14th place in the open ladies race which was won by Anne Ewing, with Lucy Grant and Jane Barr taking the remaining podium spots.
This Sunday sees ‘The Burners’ travel to Aberdeenshire for Round 2 of the Series at Knockburn Loch, whilst on Saturday another 26.2 mile “Marathon Ride” is scheduled to depart Monkton Cross at 0930 hours. A easy going social pace of around 13 miles per hour will be maintained with a route that takes in some of the quieter back roads in and around South and East Ayrshire, with a cafe stop to finish off the mornings ride.
