Girvan’s bad form continued into the new year as they went down 5-1 at Ardrossan on Saturday.
However, the Seasiders put up a strong fight against one of the Ayrshire District League favourites.
Girvan went into the game off the back of a 14-0 drubbing by Lugar the week before when they only had eight players.
Ardrossan almost took the lead in the first minute of the game when Colin Robertson in the Girvan goal made a good save from a Conor Browning volley.
Rovers created another couple of half chances in the opening ten minutes before Michael Wardrope in the home side’s goal saved a snap shot from Kyle Russell.
On 22 minutes, Jared Willet’s shot was deflected from a corner and from it Ardrossan took the lead when the ball was cleared out to Matty Bennet who fired home from 30 yards.
It was almost 2-0 on 37 minutes when a cross almost deflected in off a Girvan defender.
Ardrossan’s second goal did come on 39 minutes when David McVittie handled in the box and Ryan Caddis slotted home the penalty.
Girvan got back into it on the stroke of half time when John McGlaughlin was unmarked inside the box and he scored from 15 yards.
Ardrossan continued to dominate in the second half as Robertson kept out a Lee McCrea shot on 46 minutes before Ryan Caddis hit the top of the bar.
Connor Gracie then had a superb effort saved by Wardrope before Browning played in Willet to make it 3-1 on 66 minutes.
Browning then linked with substitute Gareth Turner as the former rifled home from 25 yards to make it 4-1 and the scoring was completed on 83 minutes when McCrea played in a ball to Willet who scored his second of the game.
Girvan are at home to Muirkirk on Saturday (10th) at 1.45pm as they go in search of a first league win of the season.
The winner of the club’s weekly 50/50 draw was Betty McLean who won £60.
