Five members of the Ayr Burners Cycling group completed their Cycle Ride Leader course at the weekend.
The group had to complete a number of exercises including risk assessment and trailside repair, as well as planning and leading a ride under test conditions.
The new leaders are now ready to support the ever growing number of rides and activities scheduled by the group.
Among the group was Alec Macfarlane, originally from Melbourne Australia and a former student of the Australian Institute for Sport cycling programme. Alec highlighted the chance to exchange ideas as a key benefit of the course.
Unfortunately Ayr Burners’ planned ride around the Ayrshire Alps on the 17th January was postponed due to the winter weather.
This will now go ahead on the 7th March.
However, the group have a number of other events between now and then including a cyclocross skills session on the 31st January. This is being promoted especially to youth riders. Cyclocross is a winter cycling discipline suitable for any bike with off-road tyres.
Taking place entirely off-road it is a great way to develop skills and enjoy cycling in a safe environment. For more information visit ayrburners.org”
