The Ayr Burners launched their summer series of events on Thursday evening with the exciting Barnweil Monument Grand Prix.
From May through to August, eight differing mid-week challenges await the riders, with everything from Strava rides to treasure hunts.
Round one followed a Time Trial format but with a difference - After a qualifying round to determine handicap, the 17 riders would be set off in pursuit of one another over a rolling four kilometre course. Stage one saw Scott Knox, Pete Ferrier, Adam Stevens and JP Baxter all break the ten minute barrier, with a time gap of four minutes between the fastest and slowest riders.
Round two proved to be an exciting finale with Gary Currie showing excellent pacing from round one to take the win, followed closely by Scott Knox and Harry McGarvie. A total of £34 was raised for the MS Society through the £2 entry fee for ‘The Burners’ Summer Series, with the next event being The Annbank and Stair Fayre on the 28th of May.
