The countdown is well and truly on for the 2015 Coral Scottish Grand National Festival which takes place at Ayr Racecourse on Friday April 17 and Saturday April 18.
There are 15 exciting races with the highlight the £210,000 Coral Scottish Grand National run at 3.45pm on the Saturday.
This year’s renewal of the race looks like being up there with the best and leading Scottish trainer Lucinda Russell is likely to run Lie Forrit, owned by the late Campbell Gillies’s mother Lesley.
Another intended runner is Coral Welsh Grand National winner Emperor’s Choice and this Venetia Williams trained runner will pick up the £100,000 bonus put up for a horse winning the Welsh race and then completing the double at Ayr.
Friday’s highlight is The Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase run over two and a half miles which this year has been elevated to Listed status and carries £40,000 in prize-money.
And on Saturday the chief supporting race is the £100,000 QTS Scottish Champion Hurdle, now one of the top five hurdle races in the UK racing calendar and this year’s entry for the race is likely to reflect that.
Tickets are selling fast for both days and there are discounts available for bookings made and paid for seven or more days in advance.
