Criterium racing returns to Kilmarnock after 20 years plus absence

Howard Park was this weekends venue for cycle racing, as Criterium racing returned to Kilmarnock for the first time in over twenty years.

Ayr Roads Cycling Club - Harry Fairbairn BMW - fielded an impressive ten riders in 5 different categories. A fast and technical course meant that the racers would have to be on top form to gain good placings in this well subscribed event.

First result of the day went to ARCC’s Ollie Kelly in the under 8’s race, with yet another win to add to 2014’s impressive tally of top finishes for the youngster.

In the ladies event Janet Erskine placed 2nd with a battling performance, with fellow team-mate Joanne Baxter finishing just behind in fourth place. The mens event saw five members take to the start line with a packed field of competitors from all over the West of Scotland. A breakaway group formed around the halfway point of the race, which would include the winning rider of the day. Greg Henderson capped an strong display with a 2nd place finish, with teammate John-Paul Baxter just behind in 4th position, rounding off a great event for both the club and everyone involved on the day.
