The European exploits continued for the members of Ayr Burners Cycling QTS as another of the famous foreign cycling events was ticked off last weekend.
With Martin Carmichael completing the Marmotte Cyclosportive two weekends ago, this time it was Jonny Burns’s turn to take to the start line of the 2016 L’Etape du Tour.
Thirty degree temperatures along with many ‘Hors Category’ climbs would guarantee a tough day in the saddle for the man from Symington. The Col du Aravis, Croix Fry, Colombiere, and the Joux Plane were all on the impressive route menu. Jonny completed the leg sapping task in strong fashion after 95 miles and nearly 10,000 feet of ascent.
This Sunday ‘The Burners’ will be topping up the miles with a 100 mile ride from Straiton to Gatehouse of Fleet and back. A steady pace, great scenery, and a cafe stop are all mandatory for the excursion which departs Straiton at 9am.
