Sunday saw the finale to Scottish Athletics XC season with the National being held at Callander Park for a tenth year in succession and again with another huge increase in numbers throughout all age groups from Under 13s to Seniors.
Battling through the already churned up course in the Under 17s were Girvan duo Fraser Stirling and Rhys Sim both racing for Ayrseaforth. Fraser coming home in an excellent 11th position with a time 22:46 for the 4800 mts distance and Rhys coming in 34th with a 23:46 time to his credit.
“With underfoot conditions enough to contend with, the rain and wind was also a battle for everyone on the course today,” said Rhys afterwards.
Last race of the day saw Kerry-Liam Wilson fight his way to 35th place with a time of 42:17 for the 12000 metres distance which for Kerry-Liam was three big laps.
Kerry-Liam said: “Only one XC race under the belt this season before today and you most definitely need to have a few but overall happy with result. Like Fraser and Rhys we can all concentrate on the road races now until the XC returns in October.”
