Last Wednesday evening over in the Silverknowes area of Edinburgh saw the return of the Scottish Athletics National 5k Championships which are held on the esplanade and this year saw a record entry.

The Weather was favourable to the athletes too.

The race is is part of the Scottish Athletics Grand Prix and again local runner Kerry-Liam Wilson made the journey worthwhile by retaining the Masters title for a record fourth consecutive year with a time of 15:16 to take thirteenth place.

Kerry-Liam said: “I wasn’t too far away from my personal best over this distance, 15:02, which I set here last year.

“Last year I was on a reduced mileage programme leading into Belfast marathon which was five days later.

“I’m still on marathon training for Edinburgh at the end of the month and just came off two high mile weeks of 126 and 116 but that didn’t seem to affect the legs tonight. Tonight’s aim was to try and retain the title and thankfully I did.”
