Girvan battle back into promotion race as two wins on the bounce turns up heat on Clydebank and Glenafton

Girvan battled back from an early setback to claim three points on Saturday and fire themselves back into the promotion mix.

A comprehensive victory over Whitletts Vics last Wednesday ended a poor run of results and Saturday’s win has left their promotion bid in their own hands as the chase down Clydebank and Glenafton Athletic above them.

After falling behind to an early Fraser Team strike after only eight minutes, the Seasiders put all their battling instincts on display in the second half to come away with all three points.

A Kevin Biggart penalty five minutes into the second half and an Iain Cashmore strike six minutes later proved enough for Brian McLuckie’s men to record a hugely-important win.

Earlier in the week, Girvan gave their support more goals by firing five past Whitletts. Biggart, Stuart Peacock, Alan Love, Aaron Connelly and an own goal sealed a comfortable win against the Ayr side.

Girvan still have six games left in this league campaign and will need to win at least four of them to get into the top two.

On Saturday, they travel to face Cumbernauld United and then, next Tuesday night, host fellow Ayrshire side Hurlford United.
