Girvan lost out Kilwinning Rangers at Hamilton Park on Saturday in what was a tight encounter.
The Seasider lost 3-2 but continued to showcase the improvements they have made under manager Peter Leonard.
Kilwinning are fighting for promotion from the Ayrshire District League and got off to the best start when John Bradford put them ahead in the first minute. Girvan’s trialist striker created a chance on 10 minutes but Kilwinning cleared the danger.
The visitors doubled their advantage when the ball was spread out to the wing and the cross was put in by Willie McLaren. Kilwinning looked to have sealed the three points just after the half hour mark when a long and high ball was taken on by Bradford who drove by Avci in the Girvan net.
However Girvan showed the spirit which has got them recent results and the trialist strike’s cross-cum shot looped over the visitors keeper on 35 minutes. It was 3-2 soon after the break when Girvan were awarded a penalty and the trialist slotted home. Girvan then piled the pressure on for an equaliser with James Hilton forcing a good save on 61 minutes before the trialist sent a header over five minutes later. Danny Cunnigham had a shot with ten minutes to go but it went over the bar.
Another spirited performance by Girvan but the first win still eludes them. They go to Darvel on Saturday (28 February) in the hope of three points. The winner of the club’s 50/50 draw was Ian McVittie who won £54.
